Abstract

Introduction: With the elderly population currently being the fastest growing in Brazil, it is important to ensure comprehensive care for their health, often affected by systemic and oral diseases. Oral conditions, which can be prevented or treated with regular visits to the dentist, make it essential to expand and qualify elderly people's access to services. Objective: Evaluate studies with intervention programs that aim to expand and qualify care for the elderly in UBS in the city of Pelotas. Methodology: This is a narrative review carried out non-systematic from April to June 2023. The bibliographic search was carried out in the databases Biblioteca Virtual Em Saúde, Scientific Electronic Library Online, Biblioteca Digital Brasileira de Teses e Dissertações, and Google Scholar. The study included original articles, theses and dissertations, reviews and gray literature in Portuguese, or any survey that addressed some form of management for health care for elderly people in dentistry in basic health units in the city of Pelotas, specifying the unit in question. Results: Initially, 139 studies were found for potential inclusion. After reviewing titles and abstracts, 11 studies were identified, of which 4 were selected for inclusion in the narrative review for analysis and discussion after full reading. All were theses and dissertations. Conclusion: The findings do not provide an overview of the reality of oral health in the city of Pelotas, but they demonstrate that the implementation of a higher-quality service is necessary.
